This bold leso design is a celebration of street wisdom, movement, and modern East African urban life. It was inspired by my experience at the Travel 4 Purpose Mombasa Food Tour hosted by @Chaqula_ in Old Town. At its center are three vividly illustrated tuk-tuks, lined up with quiet confidence, each wrapped in layers of playful geometry, halftone textures, and electric color. Behind them rises a stylized city skyline, silhouetted in deep indigo against a radiant yellow sky—evoking heat, energy, and the constant rhythm of the city.
Printed along the bottom is the Swahili proverb “NDEGE MJANJA HUNASWA NA TUNDU BOVU,” which translates to “Even a clever bird can be caught by a rotten trap.” It’s a reminder that intelligence alone isn’t enough—discernment matters. In a world full of distractions, shortcuts, and shiny offers, this proverb speaks to the importance of wisdom, patience, and seeing beyond surface appearances. The message grounds the vibrant visuals in cultural depth, making the piece as thoughtful as it is striking.
